Post Fracture rehabilitation (non-surgical and Surgical repairs)

Our staff is experienced in the Physical Therapy management of upper extremity, lower extremity and spine fractures. Due to prolonged immobilization of fractures, you can often experience loss of motion and strength of the involved joints. This results in difficulty in resuming normal activities. We understand how important it is that you regain your independence. Throughout your course of rehabilitation, your therapist will work to improve your functional mobility.

Deficits normally associated with fractures include:

  • Loss of strength
  • Loss of joint motion
  • Difficulty walking and climbing stairs
  • Problems with self-care and dressing
  • Fatigue
  • Soft tissue restrictions

Our management of your fracture

Strengthening, posture and range of motion exercises will be incorporated. You will practice reaching, carrying and lifting tasks to assure you have proper body mechanics and confidence in your abilities. With lower extremity injuries, we understand the importance of you regaining your ability to walk normally. Our therapists have extensive training in applying therapeutic activities in restoring normal gait and running mechanics.

  • Strength and Range of Motion Exercises
  • Lifting and carrying skills
  • Posture and body mechanic correction
  • Balance and proprioception training
  • Self-care and dressing
  • Gait and/or running mechanics training
  • Soft tissue restriction management – including Graston Technique
  • Joint mobilization and deep tissue release
